Every year the same! |
Every year, for as long as I can remember, my new years resolutions have been
1. Lose weight
2. Give up smoking
3. Save money
That’s it. Maybe the odd “Finish school” if I have been studying or completing a course, but the top 3 have always been the same.
This year, I gave up smoking after nearly 20 years of a pack a day habit. And for those doing the maths, yes, I started around 12 or 13 years old. It’s been 6 months with the occasional “oh god I am drunk and I am going to smoke” moments. I no longer smoke 20+ a day, every day.

Huge achievement. |
As I get older, I realise saving money is not a resolution, its a necessity, so its off the list too, as its something I NEED TO DO, not something I must “resolve” to do.
So that leaves losing weight.
This is still my number 1, but I a changing it to “Get Fit”. I think this is a better all round goal. I think the importance of having a healthy body comes before the vanity of “losing weight”. Losing weight and toning up are the amazing, beautiful and fucking awesome side effects of being fit and healthy.
I have had a rough 2 years with my health. Not as bad as some, but enough to make me realise I need to change my ways.
I had a haemorrhagic cyst rupture and burst in 2012 which resulted in emergency surgery and 3 months recovery, followed by an ongoing issue with Plantar fasciitis and now 2 cortisone injections (Dr says no more injections if it returns, surgery is next) then an abdominal hernia repair surgery with 3 months recovery, and this month, have had polyps removed from my ovaries and been diagnosed with Polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Now, when you are on a constant “weight loss” mission, this down time really fucks with your head and your progress. will power and motivation go out the window and the pity party and binge eating and drinking starts to the cries of “when I am better, I will start again”.

Me when I am not “on the wagon” |
So changing my mindset is the beginning. If I do get injured, or lose my mind a little, I just need to change my thinking and stay on track as best I can. That’s where you my dear readers, and those that “like” my Facebook page, well, you guys are going to be my added motivation.
So thanks for taking this journey with me. (MASSIVE HUGS!)
Here are my New Year Fitness Resolutions for 2014
1. Get fit & healthy
